On Monday, we embarked on a new homeschool, year. Over the summer, I decided to update our Homeschool Calendar. I had been looking at examples from fellow bloggers and printed several great files to use. I created a few of my own to add our Calendar Area. This year, we are using a large Pocket Chart we purchased at Wal-Mart several years ago to use as our Calendar Area.

How we plan to “row” our homeschool year
I mentioned in our recent post on our curriculum that we will be using Before Five in a Row with our youngest son. There are about 24 books that are mentioned in the BFIAR book (a few are out of print and difficult to get). I looked into what our public library system has and found out they have all titles but four. We have about 5 books in our own home that I had purchased through the years

Our Homeschool Curriculum 2011-2012
I know that I have not posted much recently but we have been busy enjoying our summer vacation. For the last several months, I've spent a great deal of time thinking and planning for our new homeschool school year. Early on, I knew some of our curriculum choices and ordered throughout the year as we could afford them.
In truth, we did not get everything on our wish list so I managed to

Homeschool Village: Heart for the Art
This week’s topic at the Homeschool Village is A Heart for the Arts, sharing what you plan on teaching for art.We never used a purchased curriculum for ART before, we've been happy just making arts and crafts from open ended art, StArt projects, and projects related to our unit studies. Most of what we make is made from recycled items and it teaches the boys how to find other uses for items. We

Art Caddy and some fabulous finds
We have seen during the last two months some bloggers display their handmade art caddies on their blogs. I had been meaning to find materials to make with the boys but when we saw these adorable plastic ones at Target, we could not pass them up, They were $2.50 each and made of sturdy plastic. We found ours in the Target dollar section so we bought two, one for each son.
While there, we

Curriculum planning, shopping and saving some trees
I know it was been quiet around here but I have been busy. I worked on our curriculum plans for 2010-2011 during the last few months after looking at what worked best for our family and what interest the kids.
This year had been difficult for us financially so I was faced with some thinking on my part on how to afford getting our homeschool materials on a tight budget.
During the last several

My plans for our curriculum 2010-2011
For the last several months, I have been thinking about what books and materials we will be using when we begin our new homeschool year 2010-2011.
I looked at what worked for us this current school year and what did not, what areas we needed purchased curriculum and supplemental materials. We stayed with the same curriculum for Handwriting, spelling, phonics, and science. We are making changes

What we have left for our 2009-2010 school year
I was looking at what unit studies we have left and it looks like we may end our school year at the end of June. That gives us a month in July for a break and family vacation time so that we can resume in August with our new homeschool year.
When will you be ending your school year with your children?

Plans for 2010
We were planning on resuming our homeschooling week on January 4th but with the boys sick with the flu that changed. We are starting back on January 11th.
This past week in addition to taking care of my two sick boys, I devoted the time to cleaning the home and on reviewing our homeschool materials.

Curriculum for the Fall
I don't buy curriculum much because for one I get it through Paperback swap, our local homeschool group's book/curriculum exchange and I make my own lessons for most subjects. I am still continuing to make our lessons about but I am supplementing this coming Homeschool year and changing our math curriculum.
For Phonics, I have decided to try using Explode the Code to add to what we are currently
