Water Density (Science Sunday)

This week we conducted an experiment on water density. We have been learning about earth’s oceans as part of our geography studies so we thought it would be interesting to learn how salt water is heavier that plain water.

We discovered in our research that Oceans make up about 70 percent of Earth’s surface and contain lots of different salts: sodium, chloride, sulfate, magnesium, calcium,

Colour Your World

COLOUR  your World- Its a gift from GOD *

Hi....Lovely to see you here again.... (I'm an Emu by the way.)
I am thinking about colours, where would we be without them?
Life would be so drab and depressing.

Colours lift your mood and make you feel happy.
Many creative artists have taken an old grey wall and face-lifted it with colour.

My hubby Ray standing in front of Steve Irwin's wall at Australia Zoo near where we live.
Sadly Steve went home to the Father in 2007 after receiving a stringray barb to the heart.
Steve was a happy hearted man, one that loved his family and devoted his life to animal conservation.

I would rather look at a picture than a wall....

Memories of the past depicted on a library wall.
So colour your world with happiness..

The Lords Word from Me to You..
"May the Lord bless thee and keep thee:
May the Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon thee,
And, give thee, peace."Amen.

Maybe not raining cats and dogs, but fish...

Raining Fish video link

For thousands of years, an incredible weather phenomenon has been documented in which fish and other small water creatures like frogs and snakes, have literally fallen from the sky.  Although it is not entirely understood how this can occur, most scientists and meteorologists think it is the result of water spouts and tornadoes passing over the ocean or other bodies of water and displacing the animals in other locations.  The winds associated with tornadoes and water spouts are so strong they can lift the water creatures high into the base of their funnels. Because the creatures are so light, they then get caught in the powerful winds in higher levels of the atmosphere until they reach a trough and can plummet back to earth.  Once the animals are caught in the strong winds, they could be journeying on the drafts hundreds of miles before reaching a point when they fall.  As described in the video, it’s not uncommon for an entire school of fish to plummet to one location, as they were abducted from the same water spout and travelling on the same wind currents.
I have never heard of this weather occurrence before I discovered this video and I think it is absolutely mind-blowing.  It makes sense that a water spout or a tornado would suck fish up as they pass over water, but it never occurred to me that they could stay in the clouds until the clouds disperse.  I have actually seen a water spout before in the ocean, and now I think about all the creatures it could have obtained and displaced with it. The video even said that fish and frogs could survive after going through this!  What’s even stranger is that the fish get caught in wind currents and can travel long distances before returning to earth in such a way that fish and frogs could be raining in area where there is little water.  Now that I know about this, I’d like to see it for myself! It'd be pretty awesome if some fish just showed up in your yard one day and you could cook them for dinner.

Bless the Lord

Psalm 103

"Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name."
I love you Lord, and I thank and praise you for all our many blessings.

White cheeked honey eater on a eucalyptus tree
I am reminded how God gives us everything and much of that, we take for granted.

Galah
The wide variety of birds and their different coloured plumage.
Are a joy to the eye and ear.

King parrot.
They help keep the insects under control.

Blue winged kookaburra
Known as the bush clock, you can reply on them to awaken you with their laughter at the same time every morning.
They are one bird welcome in the garden as they eat the snakes.
If they laugh in the middle of the day it means a change in the weather.

 Ring neck parrot
A Sweet intruder, and a joy to behold.

Water hen
Walks daintily across the lillypads seeking a feed.

The wedged tail eagle.
Stands three feet tall and has a wing span of up to eight feet wide.
This all seeing majestic wonder reminds me of our God.
He defends his territory by soaring high above the earth.
And keeps an ever vigilant watch.

"But those who wait upon the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint."
Isaiah 40:31

Bless the Lord, oh my soul for thou art mighty in all the earth.

Molehill or Mountain

We all know the old saying about Turning Moleholes into Mountains, but until I actually saw a molehill, I was unable to visualise the difference.

Lately I have been impressed at how some people make so much about nothing!
Surely its not only a total waste of time, it is damaging and hurtful to the receiver.
I see a Molehill as a small (made) pile of dirt, and a mountain as an huge impassable blockage. One that requires fortitude and time to climb and conquer.

People are challenged to climb mountains, just as they are challenged to overcome trials....
However, no one desires to have an adversity forced upon them.

Living in an imperfect world means we can all misinterpret another's intentions. However prior the assumption of what you think may be something not so nice. It is good to take time for clarification not just reaction.

Road Rage...caused by people who consider themselves superior and the rulers of the highways and byways.

Pointless Arguments, Power Struggles, Temper Tantrums, Bad Behaviour.
These are all oxygen wasters that turn a beautiful person into an ugly one...
They Turn, molehills into impassable Mountains.

Be Beautiful.....
Have a sweet soul perfume like Mother Teresa.

One of her famous quotes is:

"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today.
Let us begin." (To live well!)

Outback Wanderings

There is so much beauty in our world, and we found a special kind in the wanderings of the Australian outback.

Found, out back of Bourke.N.S.W.
Due to the wonderful earth colours it is an artists mecca.
This sculpture sat on a hill amid many others by artists from around the world.

The Wave Rock made of multi coloured granite stands fifteen metre high,

Termite nests in the Northern Territory stood like Giant Grave stones stretching across paddocks.

Bungle Bungle

The Bungle Bungle Range, in Purnululu National Park, Western Australia.
One of the most fascinating geological landmarks in Australia and best viewed from the air.

Camels, Wombats and Kangaroos run free.

1 Corinthians 2:9

However, as it is written:
"No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him"

Books for a Unit study on Native Americans

As promised, I have completed my Book list for a study on Native Americans. It is a five page download which contains some helpful tips when doing a unit study on this subject. I have included a chart that indicates the meanings of colors to Native Americans. In this download is a selection of books in three different sections by selected ages: Books for Baby to Preschool. Books for ages 4 to 8.
